Deaf Awareness Week 2025

Celebrating Deaf Awareness Week 2025: Embracing Inclusion and Understanding

This week, from 5th to 11th May 2025, we proudly celebrate Deaf Awareness Week across the UK – a time to shine a light on the Deaf community, raise awareness of communication needs, and promote inclusion at every level of society.

This year’s theme, “Breaking Barriers”, encourages individuals and organisations to recognise and dismantle the everyday obstacles that Deaf and hard of hearing people face – whether that’s in education, employment, healthcare, or social life.

Deaf Awareness Week is not just about highlighting challenges; it’s also about celebrating the richness of Deaf culture, the beauty of British Sign Language (BSL), and the incredible contributions Deaf people make every day.

Here are a few simple ways you can get involved:

  • Learn some basic BSL – a small step can make a big difference. You can learn face-to-face with MSDP or with another organisation local to you. See our training page for more information.
  • Be mindful of communication – face the person, speak clearly, and be patient. MSDP teach face-to-face sessions in Merseyside, or we also have an e-learning option. Find out more here.
  • Support Deaf-led organisations like MSDP – your involvement matters. Why not take on a challenge and fundraise for MSDP? Or you could volunteer with us.

Together, we can build a more accessible, informed, and inclusive world. Let’s be Deaf aware every week!
