For the last two years, MSDP has been raising funds to provide interpreters at funerals for Deaf community members and their families. So far, the fund has helped cover interpreting costs for 13 funerals.
An interpreter costs £125 per funeral, so the fund plays an important role in helping Deaf people access communication and fully take part in saying goodbye to their loved ones in Merseyside.
We have been incredibly grateful for the support we have received so far. Last year, a group of supporters completed a virtual fundraising challenge, travelling from the most northern UK Deaf club to the most southern and raising nearly £1500 for the fund. We have also received donations from several sources, including from our Sign Club participants and from gifts in wills from community members.
We are also very thankful to interpreters who have kindly volunteered their time at some funerals, helping us make the fund go even further.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Funeral Interpreting Fund. Every donation helps us continue providing this important service when our community needs it most. You can donate to our fund here.
