Our Empowerment team provides Empowerment Support Services across Merseyside to individuals who are Deaf, Deafened, Deaf Blind and Hard of Hearing.
Our unique service offers communication support to individuals living in Merseyside who communicate in a variety of ways. This could be British Sign Language, Deaf Blind manual or Deaf Blind Hands-On as well as Hard of Hearing who require a certain tone and volume when being communicated to. We have highly trained staff who are able to communicate with our clients in their preferred communication methods as well as holding a minimum level 2 in Health and Social Care.
Our aim is for our clients to feel empowered to live a life without restriction and to promote independence.
How we can help
Our packages of support vary from client to client, some clients can access the community independently however, they feel isolated at home due to language barriers and miss having a natter with other people who communicate in their preferred communication method. Our staff will visit and spend time with our clients and have a chat, some watch football together, some may even play a board game.
Other clients may struggle accessing the community independently and require one of our staff members to support them on the bus and around the supermarket. More recently we have had clients request that our staff attend a football match and go on driving experience to drive a supercar around a racetrack. What sets MSDP apart is that we are here to empower our clients, to achieve goals they never thought possible, however big or small that may be.
Some of the things we can help with:
- Communication support (BSL, SSE, Deaf-Blind Tactile Communication Methods)
- Support with everyday activities i.e. shopping, appointments
- Support to enjoy hobbies
- Health and wellbeing advice
- Connection with wider hearing loss communities and Deaf culture to reduce social isolation and improve physical and mental wellbeing
