Level 4 BSL will help learner develop an advanced knowledge of the structure and function of British Sign Language and an understanding of the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture. It is designed to enable learners to communicate with Deaf people in BSL about a range of topics in relation to the 6 specified themes.
The themes for the Level 4 are:
- Employment and Business
- Education
- Media and Culture
- Health and Wellbeing
- Science and Technology
- Society and Politics
Who is this course suitable for?
The Level 4 Certificate in British Sign Language (BSL) meets the learning needs of those who already have competence in British Sign Language at Level 3 and are interested in developing their skills and knowledge. It is designed for those who work with, or want to work with, Deaf people (e.g. social workers, teachers of the Deaf, voluntary workers, workers within Deaf organisations, schools, etc.), and those who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in British Sign Language.
The entry requirement for this course is BSL level 3 qualification or skills at this level. We may conduct skills assessments on each applicant to determine suitability.
How is it assessed?
The course is divided into six assessments, three which are marked internally and three which are marked externally. All of our BSL courses are accredited by Signature. Further details can be found on their website.
Course length
The duration of Level 4 is 50 lessons. The course does not follow the academic timetable therefore we do not break for half terms.
