We were delighted to attend the Commitment to Carers Conference, hosted by Wirral Carers Alliance at the Floral Pavilion on Wednesday 11th June 2025. The event formed part of Carers UK’s 60th anniversary celebrations, with the themes of Empowered, Connected and Equality reflected throughout the day.
The conference offered a fantastic opportunity to connect with a wide range of services, explore potential collaborations, and discover new organisations to which we can signpost our clients.
The event featured a vibrant marketplace, spotlight sessions, a Q&A panel discussion, and presentations from a variety of organisations.
As proud Executive Directors of the Wirral Health and Wellbeing CIC, MSDP was honoured to be part of this special day. Our services are available to all Wirral residents aged 18 and over, with communication delivered in each individual’s preferred method. Our current services include:
- Duty, Advice and Guidance: Our Duty Officers offer drop-in, pre-booked, or remote appointments. Fluent in BSL, our team can assist with housing-related issues, signposting to other services, managing finances and DWP benefits, and accessing healthcare. We empower clients to make informed decisions through tailored advice and guidance.
- Support Services: Our community outreach staff support d/Deaf, Deaf-blind, and hard of hearing individuals to live independently. We help clients access social groups, attend medical appointments, and engage in community life, helping to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.
- Environmental Aids and Equipment: We offer free assessments and the loan of specialist household equipment such as flashing doorbells, TV loop systems, adapted telephones, and vibrating baby alarms.
- Social Groups and Activities: Our Community Development team organises a programme of social events and presentations for the Wirral Deaf Community. For updates, follow our Facebook page or visit our website.
- Access to BSL Interpreters for GP Appointments: In partnership with Involve, we can arrange both face-to-face and video remote interpreters (VRI) for GP appointments at Wirral GP surgeries.
The event aimed to welcome 300 carers – an ambitious goal, yet it turned out to be a resounding success. From start to finish, our stall was busy with attendees eager to learn more about our services.
One of the standout moments of the day was the wonderful performance by Barry Avison from our Trustee Board. Barry captivated the audience with eight BSL-signed songs, even inspiring some of the MSDP team to join in as backing dancers! His performances were a real highlight, and we continued to receive compliments and enquiries long after Barry had left the building! We’re seriously considering learning some of Barry’s songs ourselves for future events! Scroll to the bottom to see Barry in action.
We’re so grateful to the Wirral Carers Alliance for inviting us to be part of such a fantastic event. Being surrounded by passionate individuals and organisations working to improve the lives of carers was truly inspiring.
A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall, asked questions, or simply came over for a chat – we loved meeting you all. We’re already looking forward to the next one and can’t wait to be involved again!
