Specialist Social Work Provision for Deaf People
MSDP employ specialist social workers that work with D/deaf People. Their work involves:
- Assessment, counselling and support in relation to needs arising from deafness.
- Working with families where a child is diagnosed as having a hearing loss.
- Addressing the needs of hearing children of deaf parents.
- Counselling for newly deafened adults.
- Support to people who are deaf and who have additional disabilities.
- Support to people who are deaf and who have mental health problems.
- Co-working with, or professional advice to, colleagues from Social Services, Education, Health, Police, Probation and Voluntary Agencies.
All social workers have achieved a minimum of stage 2 CACDP and/or BSL is their first or preferred language.
